Dashboard
The Dashboard is where Overseer opens. It shows how the computers you manage stand against what you have declared, and lets you review the result of any software item or task across a group of computers.
What the Dashboard is for
Overseer is a desired-state engine. You declare what should be true on each computer, and Overseer detects where a computer differs, acts to close the gap and verifies the result. The Dashboard is the summary of that work across every client you are allowed to see.
It exists so that you can tell, before you open anything else, whether the computers you look after are in the state you asked for. Where they are not, the Dashboard shows you how many computers are affected and gives you a place to start.
The fleet overview
The top of the Dashboard sets what you have declared beside the computers it applies to. On one side are the counts of library items, deployments and live standing authorisations. A deployment is a standing declaration that something should be true on a set of computers; a standing authorisation is a named grant that lets Overseer act on its own within a scope you chose. On the other side are the computers, each marked as current, needing an update or unknown.
The counters
Under the overview is a row of counters. They cover how many of your computers Overseer reaches, how many items are compliant, where drift has been found, software that needs an update, operating system updates, Windows versions at the end of their life, and runs that failed. A list of the items that need attention follows.
A counter is a starting point. The detail behind it lives on the screens that own it: Sessions for the work that was done, Computers for one computer, and Reporting for the read-only reports.
Reviewing one item across many computers
The Dashboard can also answer a narrower question. It shows where one piece of software, or one task, stands across a group of computers.
- Choose the scope. Every client, one client, or a smaller group inside a client.
- Choose the item. A software item or a task from the Library.
- Set a date if you need one. This limits the results to the period you care about.
The Dashboard then lists the computers that match. Where a maintenance session has dealt with the item on a computer, you see how it ended. A maintenance session is one complete ordered pass over one computer.
You can add more than one item and read them side by side, and you can deploy an item from the same view. People whose role allows it can export the results.
Starting work from the Dashboard
Three buttons sit at the top right of every Overseer screen, the Dashboard included. Deploy app puts an application onto computers. Declare desired state creates a deployment that stays in force. Install agent brings a new computer under management by giving it the Overseer agent.
A search box finds a computer or a software item by name, which is the quickest way from a counter to the thing it is counting.
