System status

System Status shows how your Overseer instance itself is working - how many computers and sessions it holds, what is running and what is waiting to be processed. This page explains the tiles and how to read them.

What System Status is for

Most screens in Overseer are about your clients' computers. System Status is about Overseer. It shows the working state of your instance as a set of tiles, each one a counter.

Look here when you want to know whether Overseer is keeping up. It answers whether agents are connected, whether sessions are moving and whether results are being processed as fast as they arrive.

System Status is found under Show more.

What the tiles cover

Tiles are grouped by the part of Overseer they describe.

Group What its tiles show
Counters Computers, maintenance sessions, actions processed and sessions completed
Sessions by stage Maintenance sessions at Detection, Execution and Verify
Session counts Sessions that are OK, sessions in error, and sessions pending connectivity or pending preflight
Declarations and library The number of declarations and of library items
Background jobs The background jobs Overseer runs
Integrations The health of each integration

Some tiles depend on what you have set up. A tile that relates to an integration appears only when that integration is in use.

Reading the tiles

The tiles fall into three kinds, and each is read differently.

  • Totals. A running count of everything of one kind, such as all computers or all actions processed. A total tells you about scale.
  • In progress. What Overseer is working on at this moment, such as sessions that are running.
  • Waiting. Work that has arrived and has not yet been processed. A waiting count that stays low means Overseer is keeping up. A waiting count that keeps climbing means work is arriving faster than it is being handled.

Sessions waiting for a computer

A session waiting for a computer to reconnect is not a fault. A session for a computer that cannot be reached is shown as pending and resumes when the computer returns. It does not fail, and it is not graded from old data.

Tiles appear when there is data

A tile is shown only once Overseer has something to put in it. If nothing of a kind has happened yet, its tile is absent, not empty.

A missing tile on a new instance is therefore normal. It means that kind of activity has not occurred yet.
