Branding

A brand sets the colours, the logo and the From address that Overseer uses when it emails people. This page covers what a brand contains, how to set a default, and how to give one client its own.

What a brand is for

When Overseer emails the person using a computer, the message should look as if it comes from the people they know as their IT support. For most clients that is you. For some it is the client's own IT department.

A brand holds that identity: a colour palette, a logo, a From address and the way dates and times are written. Branding applies to the email Overseer sends, and you set it tenant by tenant. A tenant is the record Overseer keeps for one of your clients.

One default, few exceptions

Make your own company's branding the default. Every tenant that has no brand of its own then uses it, and your clients all see the same identity.

Create a separate brand only for a tenant that needs one. The usual reasons are a client whose staff know their IT department by a different name, and a client whose mail must come from its own address.

What a brand contains

Setting What it does
Tenant Chooses which tenant the brand applies to
Description A note for your own reference. It is not shown to recipients
Colour palette Sets the colours used in the email
Logo Sets the image shown in the email
From address Sets the address the email is sent from
Date and time Sets how dates and times are written
Check the From address: If a client has its own outgoing mail settings, give that client its own brand so the From address matches. The exception is a client whose mail server is allowed to send from your domain.

Creating or changing a brand

  1. 1Open the branding settings.
  2. 2Create a new brand, or open an existing one and press Edit.
  3. 3Choose the tenant the brand applies to, and add a description.
  4. 4Set the colour palette and the logo.
  5. 5Enter the From address.
  6. 6Set how dates and times are written.
  7. 7Check the live preview beside the settings. It redraws as you make each change.
  8. 8Send yourself a test email to see the brand in a real message.
  9. 9Save the brand.

Before you rely on it

Branding decides how an email looks and who it claims to be from. It does not send anything. Set up outgoing mail as well, and then send a test email from a branded tenant to confirm that the two work together.
